"Celebrating with Nature, the Forbidden Aroma": naturadistill Sansai Absinthe

In November 2025, naturadistill Kawauchi Village Distillery will celebrate its first anniversary.

Starting from a small distillery in Kawauchi Village, with a population of 2,000, our distillery began with the grand ambition of "bringing福島 to the world through distilled spirits."

During its launch, a crowdfunding campaign was conducted, and with the support of many individuals, we have been delivering the charm of this land through the "aroma" encapsulated in our gin.

Our participation in the Osaka-Kansai Expo 2025 this year will be an opportunity to introduce ourselves to people overseas, and exports to Singapore will begin in May. This marks the first step towards our goal of reaching "the world."

To commemorate our first anniversary, we are launching "naturadistill Sansai Absinthe," a limited-edition distilled spirit with only 400 bottles. As a token of our gratitude and a promise of further challenges, we have ventured into the new realm of "Absinthe, the 'Forbidden Alcohol'."

The "Forbidden Alcohol" Loved by Van Gogh

Absinthe is a herbal spirit made primarily from the herb wormwood, along with other spices and herbs like star anise and fennel. It has been loved by people in Europe, including France, Switzerland, and Spain, for centuries.

Artists like Van Gogh were said to have consumed absinthe while creating their works, leading some to believe it led to their downfall, earning it the nicknames "forbidden alcohol" and "devil's alcohol."

Due to concerns about its hallucinogenic effects, its production was temporarily banned in various countries in the early 1900s. However, it was deemed safe by an international organization in 1987, and production resumed.
